History

Mountain View Community Church began with a desire to see a church birthed that would make a genuine difference in the hearts of people throughout northern Colorado.  There was also a desire to see a church that would be a strong sending church as well as well that would see many other churches planted from it. The journey began when Tom and Dawn Harcus packed up all their belonging into a U-Haul truck, full of faith and vision and moved to Fort Collins.  Their first night in town they began to reach out to the hotel workers with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and MVC was birthed.

Over the course of the next eight months a core team of servants was raised up with a heart to see a commitment to reach out with the love of Christ and build the church through people coming to faith rather than just people transferring from other churches.  To the praise of God, on Easter morning, April 12, 1993, MVC had its grand opening at Webber Junior High School with our first public worship service.

Since then, God has brought many people - through the ministry of MVC - to a genuine, life-changing encounter with Himself. And it hasn't stopped there, MVC has become a spiritual family for hundreds in northern Colorado. In February of 1999, God moved our church family to purchase an old historic church building at 201 Whedbee Street, just southeast of Old Town, Fort Collins.  This became a great tool to reach our city and more actively reach the CSU campus.  As God has blessed our church family and we have continued to grow over the years, our passion has always been to multiply other churches by planting healthy, reproducing churches. In 2001, MVC birthed Windsor Community Church - at that time the Crossway Chapel movement of churches was birthed.

Crossway Chapel is a church planting movement to help support and resource the healthy reproduction of many churches all over the world for the glory of God.   Since 2001, we have seen several other churches birthed and other churches adopted as we have seen this movement grow steadily.   In 2010, God provided a second building for MVC by having a humble, like minded church called Living Stones fold into MVC allowing us to acquire their building. This second building, at 328 Remington in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins, has helped us to facilitate the growth that God has been bringing.  These two buildings serve as a light house to our community and are equipping facilities to reach and train up many leaders for future works.

In many ways, we feel like we are just getting started with all that God has for us.  Please consider being a part of writing History (His-story) at MVC and being part of all that He is doing through our church family!
