Setting Up BaseCamp

Over the past several years, we have been seeking the Lord for His direction for our facility needs for our growing church family. We have called this journey "BaseCamp" because of the imagery helps us to understand our perspective when it comes to a building. If you think about someone who summits Mt. Everest, they set up a basecamp as a tool for them to summit the peak. We see a building simply as a tool that helps each of us be about the mission that God has sent us on in our city. In December of 2009 we took a giant step forward in purchasing our second historical church building in Fort Collins. This was a different direction of our original plan of building one new larger facility. However, with having two buildings in Old Town, we are able to continue to grow as we reach out to the heart of Fort Collins with the Gospel and have the space to adequately equip our body for all that is ahead. Starting in the fall of 2010, MVC will have multiple - Live - services in two locations in Old Town. Below is a RoadMap of how we desire to get there.

Setting Up BaseCamp

Over the next 6 months we will be working toward launching a 4th service and using both facilities. Here is a prayerful roadmap of how what we sense the Lord is calling us to focus on in the coming months. Please join us as we pray for His leading and trust His provision for each of these significant steps.

Preparing our Ministries by Recruiting Servants - (March)

In order to add services as well as meet the needs of our current service schedule, we need to get much more of the church family involved in serving the needs of our corporate gatherings. This will be a great opportunity for everyone in the body to take simple steps to get involved. While we have more than 600 people who worship with us each weekend, we currently have about 125 people involved in serving in the ministries that support our worship times. We will be looking to roughly double that amount.

Preparing our Physical Facilities - (March-May)

We will be finishing-out the Remington building so that it can support our worship gatherings. Projects include…

  • Offices / admin center on 2nd floor, north-side
  • Children’s classrooms / nurseries on 1st floor, east-side
  • Flex classroom(s) on 2nd floor, east-side
  • Bathrooms in basement “family center”
  • Exterior lighting for safety and aesthetics
  • Sound / multimedia improvements to sanctuary

We will also be making some improvements to the Whedbee facility, replacing some carpet / flooring, and re-painting to prepare for the next season of ministry.

Preparing our Communications - (April-May)

As we continue to grow and also utilize two facilities, the need for excellent communication within the church body will continue to grow. We are implementing a new, web-based system for helping manage our growing communication needs and to help the church body better communicate with each other. This spring we will be training the body on this system and beginning to utilize it in the life of the church.

Beginning to Use the Remington Building - (June-July)

As we approach the summer, we hope to be able to begin holding services in the Remington building. This will help us get acquainted with the facility as a church body and position us for adding a 4th service in the fall. We plan to use the Remington building for our Saturday night service, and adjust the Sunday services as follows…

  • Saturday, 6 pm, Remington Location
  • Sunday, 9 am, Whedbee Location
  • Sunday, 11 am, Whedbee Location

Preparing our Discipleship Structures - (June-July)

During the summer months, we will focus on equipping the body at all levels to be effective in evangelism and discipleship. This includes focused leadership development for raising up more LifeGroup and ministry leaders to support the growing needs of our growing body.

Launching a 4th Service - (August)

We plan to launch our 4th service at the beginning of August as we anticipate the return of our college students and head into the fall semester. After much brainstorming, here is our current plan for facilitating four worship services.

  • Saturday, 6 pm, Remington Location
  • Sunday, 9 am, Whedbee Location
  • Sunday, 10am, Remington Location
  • Sunday, 11 am, Whedbee Location
  • The same pastor would preach all 4 services so the teaching of the word is consistent all weekend.
  • Two worship teams would lead the body in worship, one at each building.
  • Each service would have full-service nursery and children’s support.

Undergirding Everything in Prayer

We are constantly seeking how to mobilize the body in unified and intentional prayer. Prayer is a practical expression of dependence on the Lord, which is where we long to dwell. Please join with us in praying for this next season as we look for God’s wisdom and blessing, and join with us in the various ways we will be gathering the body together corporately.
