  • Protecting Our Children From the Internet

Something I am very passionate about is protecting our children from the great evils that are lurking on the internet.  I am shocked and saddened how easy it is for our children to get trapped into the world of porn from so many different devices (smart tv’s, gameboys, iPods, etc.).  Over the last several weeks  we have been challenged by the words of Jesus and His teaching on the heart in the Gospel of Mark.  Something Jesus makes very clear is our sin that defiles us is simply a reflection of what is going on in the heart.  (Mark 7:20-23)  Therefore, we can not simply change behavior and expect the heart to change.  So what that means is that our children’s battle with porn is ultimately the battle of the heart.  We must help our children gain a greater love for Jesus than anything this world would offer them.  Nothing will compare to the glory and beauty of Christ, and we must continually press the glory of the Gospel into our kids.  That is the greatest way to protect them from the temptations (in it’s many forms) that this world offers.

With all that said, the Apostle Paul says “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” (Romans 13:14).  I do believe we must go to battle for our children in protecting them from getting porns ugly talons hooked into them.  Porn will take our kids deeper and farther then we even imagined and it is important that while we teach the heart, we help protect them from the flesh.  This can be a daunting task as a parent.  I have often felt overwhelmed at even where to start.  I did find a good resource this week to pass along that will help you think through how to protect your household.  I hope you enjoy and take the time to first and foremost – instruct the heart and desires of your children.  But secondly, doing all you can to go to bat and protect your kids from getting pulled into the muck of the internet.
