Greetings from Camp!
We are in our 3rd full day of camp and are having a great time. Today everyone went on a long hike, which was a great way to deepen the relationships that have begun over the past few days. The team is doing well and camp is going great.
Each night we are walking through the story-line of the Bible in our main sessions and then discussing the themes of the talk in our discussion groups. God is opening up a lot of great and honest dialogue with the kids. There seem to be three overarching categories of spiritual interest among the kids at camp:
1.) those who already believe in Jesus and are eager to grow,
2.) those who are interested in Jesus or have already connected with the youth group in some way, and
3.) those who are declared atheists. Within each group, God is working and people are taking steps forward.
One of the things I have been blessed by is to find how we are simply building on the work that has already taken place. Most of the kids have been at camp before and they speak so highly of the people they met last year (and the year before) from our team. The Czech team (the adult and youth leaders from Majak church) does such an amazing job and they have been so fun to work with. God has provided wonderful unity. The work that is done at camp is not an isolated experience for these kids, but rather a boost to the regular ministry that Majak is doing with these kids all year around.
Yesterday we (the Americans) spent much of the day acting crazy and helping the kids get excited about the fourth of July. The night ended with an “Independence Party” complete with a photo booth (thanks to Nathan), American tattoos, foursquare, lots of Pepsi, and line dance instruction (thanks to Ruth). The evening even ended with some awesome fireworks (much to our surprise).
As we head into the next four days of camp, pray for God’s continued work among the hearts of these kids. Pray that God would draw some to faith, and that He would strengthen the faith of the kids who are young in their faith.
On behalf of the team,
